Carmen Hartono

Carmen Hartono is a first-time author who grew up traveling between El Salvador and San Francisco, shaping her bilingual and bicultural identity. She spent much of her adult life in the San Francisco Bay Area before embracing expatriate life abroad. After living in Singapore for three years, she now resides in Houston, Texas.

Deeply influenced by her Latin American roots, Hartono reflects on the cultural and spiritual impact of Liberation Theology, which originated in El Salvador. She believes many of Pope Francis’s widely discussed “liberal” perspectives are longstanding ideas within the Latin American Catholic Church and its rich theological traditions.
